On the afternoon of Wednesday 27th January 2010 we held the Aviva Sportshall Primary Athletics event at Charter Hall, Leisure World, Colchester. The competition was for years 5 & 6 with the emphasis on team participation rather than individual success. Schools were invited to bring up to 30 children per team to make the event as inclusive as possible of which we had 6 school teams enter this competition.

The event included:

6 field events - chest push, standing long jump, standing triple jump, vertical jump, soft javelin & speed bounce

6 track events - obstacle relay, 1+1 relay, 2+2 relay, 6 lap paarlauf, over/under relay, 4 x 1 relay

Results were as follows:

The winners of the competition, Prettygate Junior School, retained the title from last year's competition. They will go on to represent our partnership at the Essex County Final being held in March competing against 13 other school finalists.

The day was thoroughly enjoyable, with some real talent on show and it was lovely to see the level of support from the parents, teachers and children for the competing athletes. A big thank you to all the schools for contributing to a very successful event and also to the young leaders provided by St Helena School, Colchester Institute & Colchester 6th Form College.
