Bikeability is the Government approved National Standard for cycle training designed to give the next generation the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today's roads. There are three Bikeability levels and children will be encouraged and inspired to achieve all three levels, recognising that there is always more to learn and to enjoy on a bike.  For more information please visit www.bikeability.org.uk

Bikeability is now being run in 90% of schools within our Partnership and over 1000 year 6 pupils have now completed both level 1 and 2 of the course in the last three years that it has been running. With more trained Bikeability instructors in the local area we are capable of delivering to many more. Every primary school in our Partnership has the opportunity to access training for their Year 6 students. A key part of the Bikeability Scheme includes the training of cycling on the road, a crucial part of cycling for young people in today's climate. The cycle training is very much designed to give the next generation the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today's roads. The programme is funded by our Partnership by  either covering the costs for one of your staff to do the training and become an instructor or by supplying your school with a trained instructor.

Colchester-Blackwater School Sport Partnership (SSP) is collaborating with Colchester Borough Council (CBC) in order to offer Bikeability free of charge to all schools.  In order to streamline the delivery schools have been clustered into two groups depending on whether they are inside Colchester town or not.  Free Bikeability courses are being offered to schools inside Colchester town by CBC whilst schools outside the town will be offered free courses by the SSP.  The SSP are currently offering 2 methods of delivery to schools as outlined below:

  1. To arrange for a member of staff or parent  to train as a Bikeability instructor free of charge
  2. To request an SSP Bikeability instructor to deliver training to year 6 pupils

If you would like to apply for either of the above options please use your login details to access the registered users area where you will be able to download further details and a Bikeability application form.
